Garden Glory-Potatoes?

My Little Sprouts have been harvesting quite a bit this week, so I decided to add up everything we’ve picked so far this year. I was amazed to see that since this season began we have harvested 167 pounds of food. Sometimes I forget to write it down, so there may have been a bit more, but that’s a ball park. Thirty-four pounds of that was just this week! That’s pretty exciting for a novice gardener and some kids. We have been pretty excited for each thing we get to pick.

Monday was a big picking day. We found an okra that no one saw. Actually I had no idea the okra even had flowers on it. The kids thought that super long one was pretty cool.

Wednesday brought more garden blessings.

Wednesday brought more garden blessings.

Today we dug up our first potato bed. We grew Rose Fingerlings in there. We saw a big spider and got around 3 pounds of potatoes. This bed was part of an experiment to see if hilling up the potatoes with compost or straw works better. There were NO potatoes in the straw, so later when the compost potatoes are ready, we can find out if hilling them up with that did any better.

The other stuff we picked today was cool too. We found a giant cucumber that we missed all week! :)

What are you harvesting? If you are not growing food, what do you think of what we are doing?
